How to Use Forkast

How to display your instant forecasts for your wind turbine ?

  1. Enter the location of your wind turbine site. When you enter the location of your wind turbines, this allows us to provide the meteorological information of your local wind turbine site for next 14 days from meteoblue.
  2. Choose the type of your wind turbine Each different wind turbine type has a different capacity and properties. We offer you 78 different wind turbine types in order to help you to avoid filling the wind turbine properties. If you can not find yours from the options, we suggest you to choose « custom » section and fill the sections manually.
  3. Click on « I’m not a robot » which is used to keep automated spammers out. Then, fill the captcha (or register for free account to avoid filling captcha).
  4. Choose the number of the day that you would like to display your wind energy production forecast.

Forkast displays robust forecasts thanks to a unique multi-model approach in order to evaluate the uncertainty of prediction by studying predictions from different meteorological services.

The goal of the Multi-Modelling is not to make local predictions for the selected place, but to show the possible divergence of the evolutions of the weather, through the presentation of different models. Every model uses its own colour, that is used in all diagrams. To see the legend with the model names, you can register for free.

For the operators, Forkast proposes to make a model study to display the best model depending on their case. (Please contact us for more details)

Once you are registered :
  • You can manually adjust the Weighting and Directional Speedups of each model by clicking on Model Settings.
  • You can receive an email for your production forecast every week by clicking on Scheduled Emails.
  • You can upload the data of your energy production forecast

How to display your instant forecasts for your solar panels ?

  1. Enter the location of your site. When you enter the location of your site, this allows us to provide the meteorological information of your local site for next 6 days from meteoblue.
  2. Choose the orientation and inclination (angle) of your panels Forkast uses an algorithm which takes into account the inclination and orientation of your photovoltaic panels. In order to obtain the best result, it is strongly recommended to enter correct values of inclination and orientation.
  3. Enter the peak power (kWp) of your panels.
  4. Click on « I’m not a robot » which is used to keep automated spammers out. Then, fill the captcha (or register for free account to avoid filling captcha).
  5. Choose the number of days (up to 6 days) you would like to display your solar energy production forecast.

Community: How to display your network actuality ?

In order to display the production, consumption and battery situation of your network, we suggest you to register for free.

Once you are registered:

  1. You can click on « Network » and then « add a new site ». By choosing the type of your network, you help us to display the best result.
  2. It is important to enter your « weekly/yearly consumption » in order to compare your production with your consumption. If you do not have this information, we provide you with standard consumption profiles to estimate your weekly consumption profile.
  3. 3. If your network provides a storage system, click on « storage » case. Then, enter the « storage capacity » of your network. The capacity depends on your battery model and the number of batteries you have. You should enter the total capacity (individual capacity multiplied by the number of batteries). The « charge/discharge efficiency » represents the fraction of energy actually stored when a given energy amount of stored energy and the amount of energy actually provided when the battery energy is used. Typical values efficiency values are :
    • 80-90% for a lithium-ion battery
    • 50-95% for lead-acid
    • Battery efficiency depends on model, age and temperature
    • Battery efficiency should be multiplied by the AC/DC convertion efficiency (if relevant)
    Forkast uses the level you provided in "Current reading" as a starting point to estimate the level of your battery in the next 3 days.
  4. Enter the « Network location » (City/Place Name or coordinates)
  5. When you save your network, you can start to enter the properties of your system (solar panel/wind turbine properties).
  6. Now you can see your network situation for the next 3 days by looking at : « Energy balance for next 3 days » graphic. Different colours represent different components, the legend under the graph will help you to see which component is represented by which colour.
